Overview

Day of the Dead Mexican Kitchen, located in Philadelphia’s Cheltenham Avenue corridor, offers a vibrant taste of authentic Mexican street food with a modern twist. This cozy spot blends tradition with a fresh approach, making it a must-visit for lovers of bold, well-crafted flavors.

The heart of the menu centers on standout dishes like their Steak Tacos and the intriguingly creative Birria Ramen—a fusion that marries rich, slow-cooked birria broth with tender noodles. While one customer noted the noodles were slightly overdone, the overall experience of the dish remains exceptional, capturing the soul of Mexican homestyle cooking with unexpected texture and warmth. The Elotes Street Corn perfectly balances smoky, tangy, and creamy notes, delivering a true street food delight.

The quesadillas showcase variety and depth, from the hearty Campechano to the prized Birria quesadilla, each made with fresh, quality ingredients that highlight Mexico’s rich culinary heritage. Guests frequently mention the freshness of the guacamole and chips, which pairs seamlessly with the main dishes, elevating the meal into a cohesive and satisfying experience.

Whether you're grabbing a casual lunch or planning a comforting dinner, this kitchen serves a welcoming space for families, food enthusiasts, and anyone craving authentic Mexican fare without the pretense. Patrons appreciate the swift, attentive service, often noting the personalized touches like callbacks to confirm orders and small surprises like added steak nachos, enhancing the sense of community and care.

Day of the Dead Mexican Kitchen champions accessibility—delivering restaurant-quality flavors that feel both genuine and innovative, serving a diverse clientele from locals to food truck aficionados. This spot is carving out a notable niche in Philadelphia’s culinary scene, promising freshness, heart, and an inviting experience that keeps guests eager to return.

The Birria ramen 10/10 noddles a little overcooked, but other than that would be ordering again.

It was our first time trying this food truck and it didn't disappoint. What we really wanted to try was the birria but I know it's a hot commodity and runs our fast! We will definitely be back to try it though! We were so hungry we didn't take any pictures but we got steak quesadilla and chorizo tacos and the owner threw in some steak nachos. Everything was very good and fresh! Thank you! We will be back soon.

Good food, good service, good location. The Mexican street corn is a must have, along with any choice. The family service is friendly and helpful, and they brought food to my car on cold or late nights. The location has street parking you can easily find and or walk from. Truck is in front of a church which feels peaceful and safe.
